Production Proposal

In this form you will be presenting the show you wish to direct for the upcoming season of Hard Road. If your proposal is selected, you will be offered an interview with the board for further consideration. Fill this form out entirely and be sure to include any relevant information that will further the board’s understanding of your vision for the proposed show.

Synopsis *

Provide a brief synopsis of the show you’re wanting Hard Road to produce. Please exclude song names and scene breakdowns. Aim to inform the reader of the plot of the show.

Themes *

What are the major themes of the show? Describe them and how they’re illustrated in the show.

Immediacy *

Consider these questions: Why should Hard Road produce this show? Why should our community watch this play? What does this play say that the World needs to hear? Why do YOU need to do this play?

Cast Breakdown *

List the number of characters and their gender (Ex., 8(F) - 5(M). How many principle characters vs. ensemble will there be? Would you be willing to cast performers who do not fit the gender of a character (i.e., cast a female performer in a male role), if the audition pool does not meet casting needs?

As the producer, Hard Road will ultimately decide what budget your show may be given; however, you will determine how your budget is spent. How would you allocate your funds? Note: Hard Road has stock in each area of design, your production will have access to these resources barring any scheduling conflicts.

For the upcoming season we plan to have shows in March, June, July, October. Note: Youth production selection will be produced in June.

What would your rehearsal schedule look like?

Musicals typically take 8 weeks to produce while plays take 6 weeks. Show how you would break down the schedule to cover the entire show, and be sure to include tech week(s). You may attach a tentative schedule as a separate document if need be.
